Gering man arrested in high speed chase

Police have arrested a 36 year old Gering man who led them on a nearly half hour chase late this morning from East Overland in Scottsbluff, onto Highway 26 and county roads north of Minatare and east of Scottsbluff.

Shawn Stacy was traveling at speeds up to 90 miles per hour as he took authorities on an estimated 20 mile chase that included off-road travel through bean fields, a farm yard, and over ditches. He eventually lost control of his pickup just east of County Roads N and 32, ending up in ditch. He was arrested after a short pursuit.

The pursuit began at 11:12 when Scottsbluff Police initiated a traffic stop on East Overland and an arrest was made around 11:35 am.

Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman said Stacy was driving under suspension, was wanted on a theft warrant, and for a protection order violation deputies had just investigated Monday. Overman says Stacy has a lengthy criminal record dating back to the '90's and officers recovered suspected methamphetamine at the scene.

Stacy is also believed to have discarded other items the Department's K-9 was helping officers locate.

Scottsbluff Police were assisted by Deputies from the Sheriff's office, Minatare Police and the Nebraska State Patrol.
