Charles P. "Bud" Young, 81, Chadron

Charles P. "Bud" Young, 81, died Friday, October 19 at his home in Chadron.

He was born November 11, 1930 in rural Dawes County near Crawford to Carl and Edna (Alloway) Young. He graduated from Chadron Prep School.

Bud served in the U. S. Coast Guard. In 1953 he was united in marriage to Shirley L. Mason. Following his discharge they moved to Chadron and he was the parts manager at the local Ford dealership. In the 1970's they purchased the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store which they operated for many years until he took early retirement. He then worked at the Dawes County Courthouse.

Following the death of Shirley in 1988, Bud married Lila Herr in 2000.

Bud was a member of the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department since 1968 until taking his current senior active status in 1994. He also took a leadership position in the local Boy Scouts for many years as well as being a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Crawford and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Lila, his sons, Rodger Young of Denver, Kenneth (Candace) Young of Rawlins, WY and Robert (Kate) Young of Denver, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

Memorial services will be Thursday, October 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Chadron with Dr. Russ Seger officiating. Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
