Shirley Mae Berger, 94, Scottsbluff
Shirley Mae Berger, 94, of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Brad Gustafson officiating. A private family interment will be held prior to the service at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel from 1-8:00 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church.
Shirley was born August 5, 1918 in Tryon, NE to Charles H. and Inez (Monroe) Green. She attended school in Minden where she graduated from high school and attended Kearney State Teacher's College. She was employed at Minden National Bank and First National Bank in Lincoln. She married Howard Berger June 14, 1942 in Minden, NE. They observed 70 years of marriage last June. They came to Scottsbluff in 1946.
Shirley was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Scottsbluff, a lifetime member of the BPO DOES #21 where she was pianist for 39 years and was selected as Grand Lodge Musician during the DOES National Convention in 1978. Shirley was an avid golfer, golfing well into her 80's and loved playing Bridge with the same club for over 60 years. She made over 100 quilts for the Linus Project.
She is survived by her husband Howard, son Chuck (Dawn) Berger, Helena, MT, daughter Patty (Steve) Lavely, Greeley, CO and granddaughter Stephanie Berger of Missoula, MT. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents.
