Helen H. Russell, 91, formerlay Minatare

Helen H. Russell, age 91, formerly of Minatare, died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Mitchell Care Center. Her Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 2, 2013 at The Scottsbluff Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastors Terry Darnell and Ron Russell officiating. Inurnment will follow at the East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare. Her remains were cremated and there will be no visitation. Memorials in her name may be made to the Valley View Seventh Day Adventist School . Jolliffe Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Helen was born November 8, 1921 at Bayard, Nebraska to Charles and Marie (Hough) Green. She grew up in the Goodstreak Community northeast of Bayard. As a young girl, she enjoyed riding horses and playing basketball. She graduated from Bayard High School, attended Union College in Lincoln and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Chadron State College.

On June 7, 1943 Helen married Edgar F. Russell in Lusk, Wyoming. She taught school at the Nine Mile School, the Goodstreak School, a country school east of Bayard and at the McGrew School. She loved kids and was exceptionally talented in teaching them how to read. She and Edgar lived in the Nine Mile Community northeast of Minatare where they raised Angus cattle, thoroughbred horses and Australian Shepherd dogs until she moved to the Mitchell Care Center.

Helen was a lifetime member of the Scottsbluff Seventh Day Adventist Church and took a very active role there. She liked to collect rocks and was an accomplished pianist and played other musical instruments.

Survivors include her sons Max (Connie) Russell of Minatare and Chuck Russell of Minatare, her daughter Charlene (Michael) Paris of Atkinson, NE and her brother Richard Green of Iowa. She is also survived by grandchildren Scott Russell of Minatare, Brenda Paulson of Rapid City, SD, Carolyn Russell of Scottsbluff, Bryan Russell of Gering, Kimberly Russell of Torrington, WY, Amber Kistler of Omaha, five great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, and another on the way.

Her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
