Afghan journalists praise America's freedom of speech
Visiting professors from the Kabul, Afghanistan journalism department today praised America's right to free speech and the technology available to everyone during a tour of the KNEB studios.
The visit by Abdul Rasoul Sayeed and Shafiq Wardak is part of their five week visit to Nebraska organized by the UNO Department of Afghan Studies. The visit is also part of the sister city relationship developed between Bamiyan, Afghanistan and Scottsbluff.
Shafiq says the limits on speech are more restrictive in the rural provinces of Afghanistan than in Kabul due to the presence of warlords. But he is still amazed at the freedom of speech in America.
Shafiq says the families in America are much smaller than in Afghanistan, where parents children, uncles, aunts and grandparents generally all live under one roof. Sayeed noted technology was available not only in the big city like Omaha but also in small communities like Scottsbluff.
