Charles C. "Chuck" Lawson, 83, Gering
Charles C. "Chuck" Lawson 83 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Saturday, February 2, 2013 in The Residency Care Center.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 2pm in The Residency Chapel, with Rev. Lauren Ekdahl officiating. Private inurnment will be held at West Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church Elevator Fund in Gering.
Chuck was born on June 22, 1929 to Ray and May Lawson, and was united in marriage to Audrey Lorraine Britton in 1957 in Torrington.
Chuck graduated from Gering High School in 1947, and attended Western Nebraska Junior College, graduating 1949. While there, he played on the only football team in the history of Western Nebraska Junior College, alongside "Nighttrain" Lane, who continued on to play in the NFL.
Chuck succeeded his father Ray as owner and operator of Ray's Used Cars and Parts, part of the local business community for over 75 years, until his retirement. He was heavily involved in local civic organizations, and was both a past Chairman and Parade Chairman of Oregon Trail Days. Chuck was an avid duck hunter and supporter of Ducks Unlimited, and a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Gering.
Survivors include his son Charles W. "Chuck" Lawson of Plano, Texas, grandsons Michael Trent (wife Kathy Conklin-Lawson) and Corwin Lawson of Plano, Texas, and sister Darlene Specht of Scottsbluff.
He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey, and parents Ray and May Lawson.
