Monument Marathon with close to 400 runners as registration deadline nears

The number of participants in next Saturday's Platte Valley Companies Monument Marathon is now close to 400, and part of the reason there are more people involved than expected is the local interest.

Coordinator Dayle Wallien with the WNCC Foundation says of the 390 people registered, more than 90 are running the full 26 mile marathon. That means approximately 300 are participating in the half marathon of thirteen miles, many of them from the local area.

Wallien says there are runners from 25 states, and touching every corner of the United States. Registration closes at midnight on Sunday at midnight, and the best way to do it is online at monumentmarathon.com.

The event also includes a Health Expo at WNCC from 12-9 on the day before the race, Friday October 12th. The Expo, sponsored by Scotts Bluff County Tourism, includes vendors marketing health products or services.

there is also a cleanup of the 26 mile running course scheduled for this Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. Meet at the Five Rocks Amphitheater
