Flood: Accelerate Expressway funding
Outgoing Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood says the legislature needs to find a way to accelerate expressway funding.
Flood, from Norfolk, says even though lawmakers approved a bill two years ago to use a portion of the state's sales tax for new road construction, the state's expressway plan is not moving fast enough.
Flood told members of the Scottsbluff-Gering Chamber's Chamber's Government Affairs Committee Thursday special funding similar to what the university received last year should be considered. He also suggested a matching investment by communities along proposed expressways might be needed.
Flood says the expressways are necessary not only for safety and traffic reasons, but also to help with economic development in rural areas.
Flood is gauging interest in a possible run for Governor in 2014. He says he will make a decision before the end of the year.
