Fireworks sale and use begins today

If you don't already know, the ten day period to sell and use fireworks begins today.

Police and fire officials are making the usual pleas to use caution while setting off fireworks, but this year it is even more important to make sure you set off fireworks in the appropriate areas due to the extremely dry conditions.

Gering Fire Chief Jay Templar says that should be the case not only in the rural areas, but also in the city limits. Templar urges people to use fireworks around concrete and green grass, not in alleys and vacant lots.

The time periods for discharging fireworks is basically the same throughout Scottsbluff, Gering, and Terrytown, except for the time fireworks can no longer be discharged at night. That time is 10 p.m. in Scottsbluff and Terrytown, a half hour later at 10:30 in Gering.
