Dennis W. Figg, 65
Dennis W. Figg, 65, died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. A Celebration of Dennis's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Jolliffe Funeral Home and Crematory in Scottsbluff with Pastor Matt Fowler officiating. Following the service, there will be a gathering at the Mitchell Valley Trap Club south of Mitchell. In accordance with Dennis's wishes, please dress casual. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Platte Valley Clay Busters 4-H Club and the Mitchell Valley Trap Club. Online condolences may be left and memorial candles may be lit at www.jolliffefuneralhome.com. Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff is in charge of arrangements.
Dennis was born on December 16, 1947 in Linton, Indiana to Carl and Betty (Miller) Figg. His youth was spent in Indiana; Idaho Falls, Idaho; Garland, Texas and Gering, Nebraska. Dennis graduated from Gering High School where he participated on the Gering High Wrestling team and earned a trip to the Nebraska State Wrestling Finals.
Dennis worked in the electrical field and worked over 33 years for Nebraska Public Power District. His career at NPPD started as a janitor at the Scottsbluff Power Plant and advanced to a power plant operator. Dennis transferred to the Tree Trimming Crew based at the Scottsbluff Operation Center. Dennis later became a journey lineman and especially enjoyed "hot work" (working on energized lines). He worked many storm jobs across the state and neighboring states with his fellow lineman to restore power.
Dennis's true love was hunting and fishing. He enjoyed the thrill of competition and earning "bragging rights". He and his fishing, hunting and shooting partners placed in many tournaments. In the Nebraska Bow Hunters Association, Dennis holds 40th place Pope & Young for Pronghorn and 34th place Pope & Young for Typical Mule Deer.
Dennis is survived by son Kevin and his wife Angie of Mitchell, grandchildren Cameron and Layla; mother Betty Figg of Denver, CO; aunt Ruby King of Dugger, IN; sister Rita (Larry) Heinrich of Denver, CO; nephews Scott, Jeff, Zach and Josh Heinrich and their families; girlfriend Marla Marx, Scottsbluff and his yellow lab, Cody.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father Carl Figg.
