Start of Probation Reporting Center project approved

District 12 Probation Executive Director Linda Buehler received approval Monday from the Scotts Bluff Bluff County Board to allow a proposed regional probation reporting center to start at the current probation offices in the second floor of the county administration building.

Buehler said she wanted to start the project "in a small way" so a couple of needed programs recommended by the probation officers and the judges could get started during evening group sessions. Buehler has wanted to locate the Probation Reporting Center in the steel building on the east side of the former Aurora Loan Services property, but the commissioners have indicated they don't have the money to purchase and renovate the preferred location.

By allowing the project to start at the administration building, District 12 will be able to retain the $100,000 approved by the State Supreme Court for the project. Buehler says it will also allow her time to find other revenues to move the Reporting Center to an appropriate location.
