Mayo hopes presentation will kick-start sports complex idea
Mayor Ed Mayo says he hopes a presentation Monday evening to the Gering council by the manager of the new Ralston, Nebraska Sports and Entertainment Center will kick-start the council's interest in a sports and entertainment complex for Gering.
The council has been reluctant to approve even a request for proposals for a feasibility study on the idea, maintaining the city has other priorities right now including a library. Mayo is hoping Curtis Webb can convince the council a sports and entertainment complex can be an economic benefit to the community.
Mayo says the Ralston Center, scheduled to be open in October, is fully booked with amateur and professional sports as well as concert and cultural activities.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the council chambers.
