Chadron State student new Miss Nebraska
Chadron State College student Mariah Cook was crowned Saturday as Miss Nebraska 2012,
She will represent Nebraska next January at the Miss America 2013 pageant in Las Vegas.
At the time of her crowning, she was the reigning Miss State Fair.
Her pageant talent is as a pianist and her platform is "The Power of Adoption."
Cook is a former Chadron State homecoming queen and her ambition is to become a school teacher.
If crowned Miss America, she will be the second Miss Nebraska to earn the national title.
The first, Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan, was on hand for the pageant.
Cook was crowned by Miss Nebraska 2011 Kayla Batt, who was named Miss Congeniality at the Miss America 2012 pageant and received a non-finalist talent award.
