Doris Wilkening, 90, Bushnell

Doris Wilkening, 90, of Bushnell, died at the Kimball County Manor on Saturday, April 6, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kimball with Pastor Ken Mars officiating. Burial will be in the Dix Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials have been established to the Kimball County Manor. Doris Marie Wilkening was born in Dalton, Nebraska on September 15, 1922, the daughter of John and Anna (Miller) Schreinert.
She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on October 15, 1922 and confirmed on September 22, 1935 at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Doris graduated from the Dalton High School in 1940. She worked in the Sidney area where she met her future husband Elmer Wilkening. While her husband was serving during WWII , Doris and her cousin Margie moved to Englewood, California to work in an airplane factory. After Elmer returned from the service, he and Doris were married on September 19, 1945 and moved to Brush, Colorado where their daughter Bonnie was born in December of 1949. In 1951 the family moved to the Kimball area and Doris worked with her husband on the farm for many years. She also made many friends while she worked at GRI for 25 years.

Her only grandchild, Marci Miles was born in Douglas, Wyoming where her parents were teachers. Doris cherished special time spent with family and she looked forward to visits. Doris and Elmer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends prior to his death in 1998. During the last few years, she was blessed to be able to stay in her own home with her dog Fifi, with the daily calls, visits and ultimately the daily care she received from her beloved friend Linda Valentine. Some of her favorite things were being outside sewing, going on car trips, and polka dancing with her husband.

Survivors include her daughter Bonnie (Stephen) Johnston of Denver, CO; granddaughter Marci Anne Miles of Casper, WY; sister-in-law Faetta Schreinert and nephew Dwight Schreinert both of Dalton, NE; Wilkening –in-laws and special friends.

Her parents, husband, sister Wilma Harms, brothers Ernest and Herbert Schreinert, niece Be tty Farless and nephew Junior harms preceded her in death.
