Century Link cut impacts Chadron customers

For the second time in less than 2 weeks, CenturyLink has suffered a service outage in the Panhandle because a cable was cut by a contractor not working for the company.

The first outage was of an old-style copper cable and affected about 200 customers in the rural Scottsbluff area, with the last one not getting telephone and internet service back for about a week.

This outage is from a fiber optic line cut Monday afternoon south of Chadron and affecting an undetermined number of phone and internet customers....mostly south and west of the city, but some within Chadron itself.

Repair crews were en route to the site of the cut by early evening to determine the extent of the damage and to begin repairing it. CenturyLink doesn't know how long it will take to restore service, but fiber optic lines can be repaired or replaced more quickly than copper cables.
