Forrest B. Greathouse, 88, Gering
Forrest B. Greathouse, 88 of Gering, Nebraska, reunited with his wife in Heaven on Monday, February 17, 2014 at his home.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, February 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Memorial Evangelical Free Church in Gering with Pastor Gary Hashley and Pastor Jake Roberts officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Nebraska Army National Guard. A graveside service will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Dix Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m.to 8:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be given to the Wycliffe Bible Translators. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com.
Forrest was born on March 11, 1925 in Bone Gap, Illinois to Frank and Edith (Racster) Greathouse. He entered into the Unites States Army on January 8, 1946 and served during World War II. He was honorable discharged on June 16, 1947. He married Bertha Leora Dugan on June 24, 1951 at her parent's home north west of Bayard. They made their home on a farm near Dix, Nebraska for 40 years. He farmed in the summer and did carpentry work during the winter. He was a man of many trades, he would help anyone in need. In his church and community he was a willing servant. He retired in 1988, moving to Gering in 1990. He was very well known at the Handi-man Service and Johnson Cashway. He continued doing odd jobs and carpentry work after retirement.
He was a member of Calvary Memorial Evangelical Free Church in Gering.
Survivors include his daughters Colleen (Melvin) Brozek of Hay Springs, NE and Deanna (Randy) Flamig of Sidney, NE; son Allan (Nancy) Greathouse of Troutdale, OR; five grandchildren: Amber (Flamig) and Chris Craig of Rawlins, WY, Rachel (Greathouse) and Jeremy Muma of Gresham, OR, Ryan Greathouse of Troutdale, OR, Nicholas and Haley Brozek of Norfolk and one on the way and Ashley (Brozek) and Eric Hongsermeier of Grand Island, NE and Jessica (Collins) and Brian McKay of Bridgeport; and five great grandchildren: Brandon Collins-Flamig, Ashlynn Collins, Katelynn McKay, Collin Craig and Melia Hongsermeier.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Bertha (August 4, 2013); three sisters Ruby Hieb, Nita McSpadden, Frieda Runner, son Keith Greathouse and grandson Nathan Flamig.
