National Tourism Week is May 5 – 11, 2014. Kimball County Tourism and the Kimball County Visitors Committee will celebrate by hosting Brands & BBQ, Saturday, May 10th from 4 to 6 PM at the High Point Welcome Center of Western Nebraska.

Jo Caskey, Kimball County Tourism Director, stated, "We are excited to celebrate the growth of tourism in Kimball County, Western Nebraska, and the Welcome Center's 9 month anniversary." She added, "We have some brands on our walls, so we decided to invite any who wished to add a brand. It does not have to be an active brand. It can be a retired family brand. Anyone in the area is invited even those outside the county may participate."

The cost is $10. Brands will be burned into a small board which will be tagged with the appropriate name and year. Name plaques will be engraved and attached. Then the brands will join others on the walls of the Welcome Center. If a brand is already on the wall, but does not have a plaque; $5 will secure a plaque for it.

A $5 meal includes a pulled beef sandwich, baked beans, chips, choice of water, iced tea, or lemonade, and dessert while it lasts. Any proceeds exceeding expenses will be used for additional tourism promotion.

The event will conclude at 6 PM with a retirement ceremony of the Welcome Center's first U.S. flag conducted by the Kimball County Veteran Services Officer, Shaun Evertson.
