Marie Potter, 101, Ft. Laramie

Funeral services for MARIE POTTER, 101, will be held at 10am on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Presbyterian Church in Ft. Laramie, Wyoming with Reverend Beth Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Ft. Laramie Cemetery. Visitation hours will be held at the Colyer Funeral Home on Monday, August 5 from 3pm to 7pm. Marie died on August 1, 2013 at the Goshen Care Center. Memorial contributions may be directed to either the Ft. Laramie Presbyterian Church or to Evergreen Court in Torrington. Marie was born on March 10, 1912 in Guernsey, Wyoming the daughter of Charlie and Nora (Sullivan) Worthen. She attended school at the Kapus country school north of Ft. Laramie and also at Ft. Laramie. On June 29, 1929, Marie married Merril Potter at Torrington, Wyoming. The couple lived at Ft. Laramie before moving to Riverton, Wyoming for a few years. They returned to Ft. Laramie and Marie worked for a few years at the Guernsey Lake Museum and also helped out as cook at the Ft. Laramie public school.

She was a member of the Ft. Laramie Presbyterian Church where she had served as a Deacon. Marie and her husband enjoyed hunting arrowheads, jade, rocks, and other relics over the years and Marie donated 2000 arrowheads to the Torrington Museum. She enjoyed reading and she liked to do yard work. Marie especially enjoyed writing and she kept a daily diary for many, many years.

Marie is survived by her son Charles Potter and his wife Erma of Ft. Laramie; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Merril in 1973; her parents Charlie and Nora; step-father, Cy Hazelwood; two sisters, Leeta Cameron and Bonnie Beyerly; one brother, Frank Worthen; three daughters, Merlene Dooley, Frances Webb, and Helen Marie Potter; one granddaughter, Carol Schwartzkopf; and one step brother Chester Hazelwood.
