Two Kimball teens hospitalized in pickup-semi accident on Highway 30

Two Kimball teens remain hospitalized after a pickup-semi accident on Highway 30 near Kimball Thursday.

The Nebraska State Patrol says a pickup, driven by 16-year-old Timothy Culek of Kimball was eastbound on Highway 30 about three miles east of Kimball, and attempted to make a U-turn and was struck by an eastbound semi.

Culek, and two passengers in the vehicle, 14-year-old twins Garrett and Dalton Pruett of Kimball, were injured in the accident.

Culek was transported to Kimball, then flown to Cheyenne Regional Hosptial, where he is in the intensive care unit Friday.

Dalton Pruett was flown from the scene to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, where he is listed in critical condition.

Both Culek and Dalton Pruett were not wearing seatbelst. Garrett Pruett was wearing a seatbelt, and was treated and released from the Kimball County Hospital.

The driver of the semi, 49-year-old Richard Gross of Julesburg, Colorado, was not injured.

The Patrol was alcohol was not a factor in the accident. They could not confirm whether anyone was ejected from the vehicle.

The accident occurred around 10:40 a.m. Thursday morning. The pickup was totaled, and the semi sustained $15,000 in damage.
