Hate crime forum Tuesday evening
Nebraska Aids Project Director Jill Young says a meeting Tuesday evening at the Harms Center is not being held because of a March second incident in Sidney, but it did hasten it.
28-year-old Nathan Pohl,of Sidney is accused of attacking a man on March 2 after Pohl reportedly uttered anti-gay slurs and said he ``doesn't like gays,''. A police report says the man who was attacked had been seen holding hands with another man before the assault.
Young says Department of Justice official Lou Ruffino had talked to her about having a meeting to discuss hate crimes prior to the attack, but made it more of a priority after the attack. Young says the forum will educate people on the subject and show them what to do with they are a victim or need to report a crime.
The group will explore any available victim and community support programs that exist in western Nebraska. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. in Room 103A of the Harms Center.
