Fireworks sales decline

Local fireworks vendors say sales were down about 20% from last year, but they are still praising community residents for their support. Eric Wilcox with Discount Fireworks says even the suppliers around the region indicate they are seeing a 20% decline.

Wilcox says the fact July 4th was on a Wednesday hurt, but economic factors and the dry weather also became a concern.

Wilcox says the bigger threat of a fireworks related fire and talk about banning fireworks due to dry conditions also meant those who did buy fireworks spent less.

Greg Trautman with Fireworks Unlimited agrees July 4th being in the middle of the week and concerns about dry weather limited sales. But he also noted people spent a lot of money during the last couple days.

Both men say they can save any leftover inventory for use over the New Year's holiday or next summer.
