John was born May 6, 1939 in rural Mitchell to Johnny Huber, Sr. and Amelia (Dittenber) Huber. They moved to Morrill in 1948 where he attended school until transferring to Mitchell where he played football. John still holds some of the weightlifting records at Mitchell High School. He married Sharon C. Ustohal on April 3, 1966 in Morrill where they raised their family and John worked for Pathfinder Irrigation. They moved to Garden City, KS in 1972, then later back to Morrill in 1980 where John again worked for Pathfinder Irrigation until his retirement in 2004 as Water Master. At that time he stayed home and cared for his wife Sharon and operated John's Bait Shop.
Many local sportsmen knew John. His passion was to serve rather than to be served. Every customer became his best friend. Many photos of his customers were pasted on the walls of his bait shop. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.
John loved caring for the neighborhood cats. He called them his babies. His one special baby was Henry who he held for hours each day.
He is survived by his wife Sharon of Morrill; sons Jim (Debbie) Huber of Garden City, KS, and Joel (Julie) Huber of Maine; daughters Jennifer Johnson of McCook, NE and Carol Miller of Gering, NE; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; mother Amelia Huber of Scottsbluff and sister Shirley Foos of Scottsbluff.
His grandparents, father John, 2 daughters and 1 granddaughter preceded him in death.
