First degree murder conviction in Sidney drug-related slaying
A Cheyenne County jury has found a 35 year old man guilty of first degree murder in a drug-related slaying in Sidney.
Cheyenne County attorney Paul Schaub says Jason Custer was convicted of first degree murder in the death of 36 year old Adam McCormick of Sidney. Custer was also convicted of use of a firearm to commit a felony and possession of a firearm by a felon at the completion of the week long trial.
Custer faces a mandatory life sentence for the murder conviction when he is sentenced March 18th at 9 a.m.
Authorities said they think the two men were arguing about $160 in drug money. Custer fled Sidney to Big Springs, where he was arrested later that day at a motel.
Assistant Attorneys General Michael Guinan and Matt Lierman handled the case with the assistance of Schaub.
