Gering, Legacy of the Plains benefit from USDA grant

USDA Rural Development announced Thursday they are providing Gering a $300,000 grant that will be used to provide a no interest loan to the Legacy of the Plains Museum for their expansion project.

The loan will help build two additions and a new building for the Legacy of the Plains. Money provided through repayment of the loan will be used by the city for other economic development activities.

Legacy of the Plains Executive Director Katie Bradshaw says the money is crucial in helping pay initial expenses for the project.

Bradshaw gave a lot of credit to Gering City Administrator Lane Danielzuk and USDA Rural Development's Marla Marx for assisting with the grant application. Bradshaw says the money will help keep her position and as additional money is raised create a part-time administrative post and hopefully a full-time curator position.
