Donald Glen Lowder, 87, Scottsbluff
Donald Glen Lowder, 87, of Scottsbluff, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Heritage Estates in Gering. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff with Pastor Karen Anderson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Nebraska Army National Guard. A memorial has been established to St. Francis Episcopal Church. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel between 1-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Don was born October 7, 1925 in Rich Hill, MO to Glen and Dixie (Gregory) Lowder and grew up in a farming community. After graduating from Rich Hill High School he entered Missouri University School of Mines. He entered the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1943 and trained as a pilot during WW II. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He returned to college and graduated in 1948 with a BS Degree in Chemical Engineering. Don married Betty Mayfield in Coffeeville, KS November 12, 1948. He was employed as an engineer for C.R.A. Inc., now known as Farmland Industries, in Coffeyville until 1953 when he served as superintendent of the refinery in Scottsbluff until 1961, when he transferred to the refinery at Phillipsburg, KS. In 1965 he returned to Scottsbluff where he retired as manager in 1985 when the refinery was closed.
After retirement, Don enjoyed gardening, golf, fishing with his grandson, caring for his granddaughters and traveling to Missouri for high school reunions and visiting relatives. Don was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church and had served on the Vestry, Elks Lodge #1367, Robert W. Furnas Lodge #265 AF & AM and the Riverview Golf and Country Club.
Don is survived by his daughters: Susan (Frank) Marohn, Rapid City, SD, Mary (Gene) Thomson, Scottsbluff, NE and Amy (David) Schlenker, Gering, NE; 10 Grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, son Mark and parents.
