Flood emphatically rules out run for Governor

The Republican party's best chance to keep the Governor's post has made it clear his family and wife's health comes first, and has put to rest continued rumors he may change his mind and run for Governor in 2014. Former Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood told his hometown newspaper he is definitely staying on the sidelines in 2014 as his wife continues to be treated for breast cancer.

In an interview with the Norfolk Daily News Flood said, "We have every reason to be optimistic. But a gubernatorial campaign is an everyday thing. I didn't want to be 300 miles away if we received some discouraging news."

So far State Sen. Charlie Janssen of Fremont is the only announced Republican candidate.

Republican Charles Herbster of Falls City is expected to get in soon and there is speculation that Carlos Castillo, who engineered Heineman's 2006 primary victory over Nebraska football legend Tom Osborne, will head Herbster's campaign.
