Gothenburg woman appeals manslaughter conviction
A Gothenburg woman, serving 18 to 20 years in prison for the death of her 3-year-old daughter, is appealing her conviction and sentence to the state Court of Appeals. Doris Herrin, now 29, filed her notice of appeal earlier this month.
Herrin was found guilty of Manslaughter following a 5-day jury trial in August. Her daughter Misty was diagnosed with bleeding on the brain in December of 2010. She died after being removed from life support. During trial, the Prosecution said Misty had suffered three blows to her head and was shaken.
The Dawson County District Court has appointed a new defense attorney, Brian Davis, for purposes of her appeal since one of the issues she intends to raise is ineffective counsel.
