Record number of animals to be sold at Junior livestock sale
Some changes are occurring in the junior livestock sale for this year's Scotts Bluff County Fair. The sale is set for noon Saturday, and buyers need to be at the livestock building by 11 a.m. to register and get a number.
Junior Livestock Committee Chair Justin Welsh says there has been more 4-H participation and thus there are a record number of animals, an estimated 260 to 280, that will be sold. the majority will be swine but there will be 45 cattle, the same number of sheep and a handful of goats.
Welsch says some of the major pharmaceutical companies have prepared a steak dinner for each animal sold and buyers will also get a voucher to attend the concert Saturday evening featuring Josh Thompson and the McClymonts.
Welsch says they have used commission from past sales to improve the aesthetics of the show ring and to put in fans in the roof that should make the experience more comfortable for those attending.
