Kleagers honored by Sheehy for work with CERT Team

A father-son team who are important members with the Scotts Bluff County Cert team were recognized Thursday with "Be Prepared"awards from Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy.

Randy Kleager received the 2012 Local Hero Award, which recognizes extraordinary service in helping residents in an emergency situation. Randy was the incident commander in the search last fall for 8 year old Kerra Wilson, who body was eventually found in a ravine in Sioux County. Kleager talents were respected so much remained incident commander even when the Nebraska State Patrol and other agencies got involved in the search.

Kleager's son Tyler was named the Citizen Corps Volunteer of the Year. Tyler is a trainer for the Basic CERT class. But more importantly has enhanced Scotts Bluff County CERT's website for its members and integrated software that allows team leaders to track volunteer hours, notify and deploy volunteers when needed, store all necessary documents that are used during an incident, and even integrate GPS tracking to monitor volunteers that may be called out to search a large area.

During the five years the awards have been given, the Scotts Bluff County Cert Team and its members have been honored annually for their emergency response efforts.
