Containment expected soon on fires burning near Lake McConaughy
Crews are currently battling wildfires near Lake McConaughy after lightning reportedly caused several to start up.
Keystone-Lemoyne Fire Chief Ralph Moul says the Otter Creek and Ackley Valley fires are 100% contained with the McKeag fire out. The Glen Echo fire is reportedly 90% contained with the Eagle Canyon Hideway Fire 80% contained.
A lot of summer homes were evacuated on the Eagle Canyon Hideway Thursday afternoon and evening, according to Moul. Lines are currently being put around the Eagle Canyon Hideaway fire. Lines have also been put around all homes in the sandhills that had the potential for exposure.
A minor heat related injury to a firefighter is being reported, but Moul says the individual was treated and released from the Ogallala hospital.
Moul says officials are hoping to have all fires fully contained before tonight's cold front.
Fire Departments from Central Nebraska to the Wyoming border are providing assistance.
