Broadway crossing work begins Tuesday, 27th Street 50% complete
Scottsbluff Director of Public Works Mark Bohl says work will begin Tuesday on placing concrete islands at the Broadway crossing and replacing pavement to the north and south of the crossing.
Bohl says Broadway is the last of the crossings to have work done prior to the quiet zone being activated throughout Scottsbluff where no train horns will be blown. Bohl says the work will be done under traffic for motorists and the trains.
Bohl says trains will be moving slower across the Broadway crossing during construction. He says Burlington Northern is beginning to install some of the electronics necessary before activating the quiet zone, and he is hoping that will be completed by later this fall.
Bohl says the work on 27th Street is at the halfway point. The city is putting in new curb and gutter and ADA ramps, and repaving the street from Highway 26 to Avenue I. Bohl says they are now at Broadway as they work their way west to Avenue I.
Bohl says when the curb and gutter work is complete, they will begin the repaving process, which will be done at night. Bohl says doing the milling and repaving overnight will allow more work to be done with less disruption of traffic.
