Records galore at Monument Marathon

A 36 year old Gering man was the first to cross the finish line in the 2013 Platte Valley Companies Monument Marathon. Aaron Carrizales was the morning's first half-marathon runner to finish with a record time of 1 hour, 18 minutes and 20 seconds. The first across last year in the inaugural event was Spencer Moul of Laramie with a time of 1 hour, 26 minutes and 40 seconds.

The second place runner Saturday morning, with a time of 1 hour, 20 minutes and 28 seconds, was 39 year old Olympic Marathon Trials Qualifier James McGowen of Sidney.

The first female in the half marathon was 19 year old Courtney Madson of Laramie at 1 hour, 39 minutes and 58 seconds. Madson was nearly five and a half minutes faster than last year's best female finish.

First finisher in this year's full marathon is last year's fist place runner, Sam Malmberg of Eaton, Colorado. He finished with a new record at 2 hours, 49 minutes and 23 seconds, which is around three and a half minutes faster than his winning time last year.

First female finisher in the full marathon was Jennifer Malmberg of Mitchell at three hours, twenty one minutes and twenty one seconds. That time was over three minutes faster that Malmberg's winning time last year.
