James "Jimmy" V. Thompson, 86, formerly of Dalton

James "Jimmy" V. Thompson, age 86 formerly of Dalton, NE passed away Tuesday night, January 1, 2013 at St. John's Center in Kearney, NE.
Rosary Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 8th with Mass of Christian Burial Services at 10:30. Both services will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Dave Rykwalder officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Monday from 1-7:00 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jim's name to the Dalton Volunteer Fire Department or St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dalton.
Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service LLC is in charge of James' care and funeral arrangements.

Jimmy was born May 3, 1926 in Dalton, NE to Neal and Louise (Baker) Thompson. He was united in marriage to Rita Patricia Filbin April 7, 1948 in Dalton, NE. He farmed in the Dalton area and worked at Dalton Co-op. He served on the Dalton Town Board, as well as the Dalton Volunteer Fire Department. In 2008, Jimmy and his sister, Teedle, were honored as two of the oldest active members of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Jimmy loved country drives to check the wheat. He enjoyed big band music, playing the piano, and watching Nebraska Cornhusker football. His entertaining stories of times past will be greatly missed.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Gary (Linda) Thompson, Fort Collins, CO, Ann Black, Kearney, NE, Ed Thompson, Northglenn, CO, Tami Gordon, North Platte, NE; grandchildren: Ryan, Megan, Blake and Ashlee; sisters: Kathryn Cortney, Denver, CO, Marjorie "Teedle" Watchorn, Dalton, NE and numerous well-loved nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Rita; his parents, Neal and Louise; three brothers: Ted, Joe and Pete and three sisters: Edna, Marguriete and Lucile.
