Martin W. Sherlock, 82, Alliance
Martin W. Sherlock, 82, died Monday, February 17, 2014 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Marty was born on June 26, 1931 in Alliance to Joseph and Elizabeth (Nepper) Sherlock. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1950.
He served in the U.S. Army from November 21, 1951 to October 23, 1953.
On June 14, 1958 he was united in marriage to Clarece A. Templeton in Alliance.
Marty spent his life working the family farm homesteaded by his parents. He also worked for Alliance Consumers Cooperative, later Westco, for 32 years retiring as the tire shop manager. He then worked for Western Potato. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and Eagles Club, as well as a Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in Alliance.
He is survived by his wife, Clarece, his children, Tim (Jana) Sherlock of Alliance, Greg (Michele) Sherlock of Lenexa, KS, Colleen (Joe) Starkey of Clarksville, TN, Sarah (Mike) Glesinger of Alliance and Diane (Mike) Honeyman of Omaha, his grandchildren, Tyler Sherlock, Gage Sherlock, Evan Sherlock, Owen Sherlock, Josh (Jennifer) Starkey, Erica Starkey, Doug (Ashlie Nicole ) Starkey, Clare Honeyman and Katie Honeyman, and one great-grandchild, Brian Starkey.
He is also survived by his sisters, Betty (Pete) Greiner of Trevor, WI, Carolyn (Ed) Brost of Sturgis, SD and Rosie (Richard) Collins of Alliance and his sister-in-law, Pat Sherlock of Alliance and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Joseph and John "Jack" Sherlock and his sisters, Madeline Roes and Mary Ann Lawson.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Lou Nollette officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery with military honors. A wake service will be Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bates-Gould Funeral Home and continue at the wake service.
Memorials may be given to the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department or Holy Rosary Church.
