Harold E. Riley, 85, Gering
Harold E. Riley, 85 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Heritage Estates in Gering.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastors Richard Neugebauer and Ralph Morris officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1 pm to 6 pm at Gering Memorial Chapel. Harold was born on November 27, 1928, at the family homestead near Mitchell, Nebraska to Gordon, Sr. and Emma (Kurtz) Riley. He received his grade school education at the Sunflower Consolidated School. He attended High School at Mitchell graduating from the Mitchell High School with the class of 1947. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1950 serving during the Korean War until 1954 with an honorable discharge.
Following his tour of duty he returned to Mitchell and married Violet Green, November 28, 1954 in Mitchell, Nebraska. He was engaged in farming and the cattle industry until his retirement in 1992 when he moved to Gering where he has resided since.
He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church. His life reflected a hard work ethic, commitment to community and devotion to family.
He is survived by his wife Violet of Gering; son and daughter-in-law Todd Riley (Kari) of Louisville, Colorado; daughter and son-in-law Tamara Wyman (Dr. William) of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren Rylie Wyman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Logan and Harrison Riley of Louisville, Colorado; two sisters Loretta Surber of San Jose, California and Janet Williams of Alliance, Nebraska.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Mary Wright and one brother Gordon Riley.
