Obama to tour Colo. fires

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) _ One person is dead and an unknown number of people are missing as firefighters battle a 26-square-mile wildfire that destroyed an estimated 346 homes in the Colorado Springs area.

President Barack Obama is planning to tour fire-stricken areas Friday after issuing a disaster declaration for Colorado, releasing federal funds to help.

Authorities said earlier the Waldo Canyon Fire near Colorado Springs had blackened 29 square miles, but they revised that to 26 after better mapping. The fire is 15 percent contained.

In northern Colorado, the 136-square mile High Park Fire is 85 percent contained with full containment expected this weekend. That fire killed one person and destroyed 257 homes. The cause was lightning.
