Cheyenne County man arrested in motorcycle-semi fatal
A Cheyenne County man has been arrested for misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide after a Chadron man was killed a little before midnight last night when his motorcycle was hit by a semi. The accident happened at the junction of Highways 20 and 385 about 3 miles west of Chadron.
Chadron Police Chief Tim Lordino, who acted as the Dawes County Coroner, says 51-year old Kirk McDowell was taken to Chadron Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Patrol says the semi driver...59-year old Darrell White Jr of Dix....was southbound on Highway 385 and had stopped at the intersection's stop sign before turning left to head to Chadron.
White then pulled out in front of McDowell, whose eastbound motorcycle hit the semi. White was unhurt, but McDowell...who was wearing a helmet...was killed.
White was also arrested for failure to sign a citation/summons. White was transported to the Dawes County Jail on bond of $10,000.
Lordino says because of the investigation, an autopsy was ordered at Regional West Medical Center.
