Specific parking changes made for OTD this weekend
Specific changes in the parking near Five Rocks Amphitheater will be made Friday evening to address the parking issues that occurred Thursday with the move of the carnival and the main event activities to Five Rocks Amphitheater.
he city of Gering says parking lanes will be provided within the main parking lot east of the carnival and OTD Commitee members will be available to assist. Additional overflow parking is being constructed west of the Carnival area and will be opened as necessary by parking or city staff. Parents dropping and picking up children will be directed to the west side of the carnival on County Road P and detoured on county roads back to Five Rocks Road south of Gering.
General Chairman Bill Schlapfer says traffic control will be started earlier the next two nights at the intersection of Five Rocks Road and D Street to address the traffic issues. He also said vehicles coming from the Amphitheater will only be allowed a right hand turn, sending them to Kimball Avenue, where they can advance to their destination.
Schlapfer encouraged motorists to use M Street to get to the Amphitheater to alleviate some of the four way congestion at the D Street intersection. Schlapfer also said they are going to apply water to the high traffic areas around the Amphitheater to keep the dust down.
