Work on major highways in KImball scheduled this week

Construction work is scheduled to begin the week of August 13 on
US-30 and N-71, according to the Nebraska Department of Roads.

Simon Contractors and Subsidiaries of Cheyenne, Wyoming, has the $3,278,416contract for work, which will be performed in two phases.

The first phase of the project will consist of pavement and joint repair south of Kimball on N-71 in the area of the I-80 interchange
and will also include pavement and joint repair on US-30 through town.

Also included will be reconstruction of the intersection at N-71 and US-30. Curb andgutter work will include the addition of curb ramps to meet the ADA re quirements. Traffic will be maintained with reduced lane widths to nine feet, and temporary closure of Webster and Walnut

Streets, at the intersection of US-30 for traffic control. Truck traffic will use alternate routes for access to US-30 from N-71 and access to N-71 from US-30, due to reduced widths during construction.

In the second phase of the project, starting in 2013, both highways will be milled andresurfaced with fresh asphalt and new pavement markings.

The reconstruction of the intersection at N-71 and US-30 is scheduled to be completedby September 19, 2012, with all lanes of traffic open for the Farmers Day Celebration onSeptember 29. Work will continue during the winter as weather allows.
