Midwest Theater digital upgrade begins
The Midwest Theater's "Digital Evolution" has begun with the demolition of the old acoustical tiles on the back walls of the main floor and balcony. Executive Director Billy Estes says patrons will see this and other changes as the process continues.
Estes also says they are still $10,000 short of the $209,000 needed to complete the upgrade and cover the cost for the installation of a 35mm reel-to-reel projection system to have access to film archives. Estes says the 35 mm system will give the theater something it has not had in the past and "bring in more diverse film programming in keeping with our mission".
The theater will close for the installation process following the final summer matinee on July 18th. The theater will open again after the project is completed on August 1st when Capital campaign donors and Friends of the Midwest members will be invited to a private screening of the new projection system.
Plans are in progress for a special event to launch the new digital projection to the public August 9th-11th.
