Chadron meeting to discuss fire recovery plan
The Dawes, Sioux, and Sheridan County Commissioners are hosting a joint fire recovery planning meeting tonight at Chadron State College to help create a 90-day action plan for the areas in the 3 counties burned in this summer's series of fires.
The meeting will run from 5:30 to 8:30 in the Student Center ballroom and Dawes County Commissioner Stacy Swinney says they will discuss what recovery efforts are needed, and settle on possible solutions.
Governor Dave Heineman will meet next week with the commissioners and other area leaders, and Swinney says they want him to have the plan for at least a few days of study in advance so he can be ready to offer suggestions of his own.
Swinney says the goal is to find recovery solutions through such things as state funds or agency assistance and local labor pools to plant trees or rebuild fences destroyed in the fires.
Swinney says time is short to act on some possible ideas....such as salvaging the timber before time and Mother Nature makes it unusable.
