Marathon registrations already exceeding expectations

The inaugural Platte Valley Companies Monument Marathon is still two weeks away, and registrations have already exceeded expectations. 366 people have signed up for the USATF sanctioned and certified event.

WNCC Foundation president Dayle Wallien says so far 92 will do the full marathon and 274 are signed up for the 1/2 marathon. The registrants are from 25 states and evry region in the country.

Wallien believes part of the reason for the interest is the fact it is an inaugural event. The marathon is also a nationally certified competition and can qualify runners for major marathons such as the New York and Boston marathon.

The event will be October 13th starting at 8 a.m. as the course follows part of the Old Oregon Trail, traversing through the historic Mitchell Pass.
