Chester Leo Haney, 89, Scottsbluff

Chester Leo Haney, 89 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at his home. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Michael Boyd officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery with military honors by the Nebraska Army National Guard. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 -8:00 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials have been established to the Prairie Haven Hospice.

Chester was born on October 16, 1923 in Morrill, to Harry and Cora (Wilson) Haney. He attended schools in Gering, Scottsbluff and Morrill, and Burley, Idaho, graduating in 1941 at Morrill, NE. He attended college at Scottsbluff Junior College and the University of Wyoming.

He entered the U.S. Army in March 1943, serving his country for 33 months, two years of that in the European Theatre, in the 110th Triple A Gun Battalion (Mobile) Battery C.

After World War II, he met Jayne Johnson of Scottsbluff and they were married January 10, 1947 in Denver, Colorado. They lived in Morrill, Mitchell, Laramie, WY and Twin Falls, Idaho moving back to Scottsbluff in 1952 and in May 1953. Purchased "Stub Line Trucking," and operated the truck line for 27 years, retiring in 1980, due to health problems.

Chet was a member of the American Legion Post in Gering, a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the Elk's Lodge in Scottsbluff, the Moose Lodge in Gering and "The Last Man's Club" in Morrill.

Survivors include his wife Jayne, grandson Herbie Burdges of Scottsbluff; daughter and son-in-law Viki and Austin L. Scott; grandson Chet Scott and granddaughter Hillary Scott all of Gering.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Rebecca Ann Burdges.
