Fireworks related fire causing anxiety in Alliance
With the area suffering through a severe drought, a fireworks related fire that damaged trees and grass on the north side of Alliance's Laing Park Monday night is causing some anxiety among the community's residents.
AVFD Chief Troy Shoemaker admits he is getting pressure from the public to ban fireworks. He also is hearing from those who want the sales and use to continue.
Shoemaker says before he offers a recommendation on a fireworks ban to the city council, he wants to give adults the chance to work with their children to practice safety. He is also urging adults to supervise young people when they are using fireworks.
Shoemaker says if a ban is implemented it would effect the sale of commercial fireworks. The Jaycees July 4th display ... which is heavily supervised by the AVFD ... would probably still be allowed.
