Not guilty pleas entered in Sidney homicide cases
Two men charged with first degree murder in separate homicide cases in Sidney entered not guilty pleas Tuesday.
Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub says 53 year old Larry Martinez entered not guilty pleas to first degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony regarding the shooting death of 30 year old Mandy Kerschman last July. Court documents say Martinez told investigators he shot Kershman because of a text message from her that made him mad. A trial date will be set during a hearing March 6th.
Schaub also says 34 year old Jason Custer entered a not guilty plea to first degree murder regarding the drug related shooting death of Adam McCormick of Sidney in November. Custer also entered not guilty pleas to use of a firearm to commit a felony and illegal possession of a firearm. A status hearing in the case is scheduled for April 3.
Both men remain in the Cheyenne County jail.
