Large Turnout for Gering Kiwanis Fun Day
A little snow didn't keep the public from coming out to the Kiwanis Family Fun Day at the FARM on Saturday. Several hundred children and their parents turned out at the Farm And Ranch Museum on Saturday. Youth participated in games inside the museum, participated in crafts and Gering Kiwanis Volunteer Rick Myers says many youth headed outdoors for the corn maze and pumpkin patch.
Prior to the Fun Day, volunteers harvested close to 300 - 400 pumpkins. Myers says 60 percent of their pumpkin sales were from the pumpkin patch, where the public was invited to pick out their own pumpkin. The Gering Kiwanis still have pumpkins available for sale. Myers estimates approximately 100 pumpkins remain in the indoor pumpkin patch at the Farm And Ranch Museum.
Last year the event raised 3 - thousand dollars for partial construction of the preschool play ground equipment for the Lincoln Elementary. With good attendance and support from the public with pumpkin sales, food sales and generous donations, Myers believes Gering Kiwanis will be able to provide support to another organization.
The event also had strong youth support from the Scottsbluff FCCLA Chapter, the Gering Builders Club and a few Key Club Members.
