Gus George Pappas, 81, Bayard
Gus George Pappas, 81, of Bayard, Nebraska passed away October 19, 2012 at his home.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Veteran's Circle in the Bayard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Festival of Hope at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.bbchapels.com. Bayard Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with his arrangements.
Gus was born on June 3, 1931 , the son of George T. and Katie (Kehling) Pappas in Bridgeport, Nebraska. He graduated from Bayard High School in 1949. After graduation, Gus helped his father on the farm. He entered the U. S. Air Force on October of 1952 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on August of 1955. He returned to farm. He was united marriage to Florine Lutz on November 9, 1957. He raised cattle and enjoyed farming.
He was an active member of the Episcopal Church, serving on the Diocese Boards and was warden to the House of Transfiguration (the Retreat House) in Bayard.
Gus enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife Florine Pappas; brother, Steve Pappas and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Katie, four sisters and two brothers.
