Audit criticizes UNL handling of contracts
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ A new state audit has found that some six-figure contracts with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln were not competitively bid, and employees didn't report others to the university's Board of Regents as they should have.
The Lincoln Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/OMvTbs) that the audit examined 49 of more than 3,200 vendors that the university paid for services and equipment in 2011. It found five instances in which contracts were signed by unauthorized staff, and two in which purchases were not competitively bid.
But State Auditor Mike Foley says his staff found no evidence of
misappropriation or impropriety.
University spokeswoman Kelly Bartling says the university generally agrees with the report, and will follow the suggestions made by auditors. Bartling says the audit found few errors overall.
