Linda Jeanette Schaneman
Linda Jeanette Schaneman passed away on November 6th 2013 at Golden Living. As per her wishes, there will be no funeral service; cremation has taken place. Memorial may be made as a family tribute to help with any expenses related to her Multiple Sclerosis.
Linda was born April 28, 1954. The daughter of Bernard and Rowena Benzel of Gering. She grew up in Gering. She was a member of the 1972 Gering High School Senior class and was a first-chair flautist in the band. She was an avid Gering Bulldogs fan her entire life. She was baptized, confirmed and married in the Gering Zion Church and later became a member of First Congregational Church in Torrington.
In 1973 she married Bernard Fritton. To this union three children were born. After the dissolution of her first marriage, Linda married Marty Schaneman in 2001. They shared a passion for NASCAR and Husker Football, it was a match made in heaven. When Marty began working for Schwan's, many times Linda would ride the route with him. They enjoyed the Harrison area so much that their dream was to purchase a retirement home in the area. She loved the friendliness of the people from Harrison who were always quick to inquire about Linda's health.
Linda was first employed as a keypunch operator at Lockwood and formed many life long friendships during her time there. She also worked at Regional West Medical Center and then the Veteran's home until MS forced her departure from the work force.
Linda was a very spirited woman. She had a sharp wit, an endearingly colorful sense of humor and had perfected the art of the sarcastic remark. Her heart was as big as Texas (which might be a bad comparison considering how much she hated the Longhorns). She was a good friend, very kind and generous. She loved her friends and family and often times was responsible for nice surprises when they were least expected. MS is a very awful disease and little by little it took away Linda's freedoms but she never ever complained about her struggles instead she chose to stay positive and fight every step of the way, she could often be heard saying, "I have MS but it does not have me."
Linda is survived by her parents Bernard and Rowena Benzel. Husband Marty Schaneman, Daughter Bernalda Fritton (Robert Joyce) of Wantagh, NY, Sons Brandon Fritton (Rachel Rojas) of Gering and Brodie Fritton (Heather Fritton) of Denver and Step Son Alex Schaneman of Newcastle, Wyo., and her grandchildren: Adrian Fritton, Raulie Rojas, Cyrus Fritton and Teagan Fritton. She is also survived by Mother-in-law Elsie Schaneman of Torrington, Brother-in-law Floyd Schaneman and family of Laramie, Wyo., Baily and Bonnie Schaneman and family of Torrington, and Sister-in-law Val and Craig Grant and family of Torrington.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and Father-in-law Alex Schaneman.
