Crimestoppers emphasize tips are confidential
The Chair of the Scotts Bluff County Crimestoppers Board is hoping more people will use the anonymous phone line to provide tips that will help solve local crimes. Susan Williams says a drop off in the number of calls the program has received started a few years ago and has declined ever since.
Williams says the reason for the reduction in calls may be technology, and the fear by the public that despite the fact the program emphasizes the tips are anonymous, somehow someone will figure out who made the calls. Williams emphasizes everyone who makes a call is simply "a number" and everything is handled privately.
With three unsolved homicides and a number of other crimes still being investigated, Williams encourages people to provide anonymous tips at (308) 632-STOP (7867).
